Keep Australia Beautiful Tidy Town Awards

Keep Australia Beautiful Australian Tidy Towns Awards come to SA

Tidy Towns (Sustainable Communities)

The Keep Australia Beautiful Australian Tidy Towns Awards were held on April 5 and 6 2018 in Barmera, with South Australian finalist Kimba well represented.

The two-day event began with a twilight welcome event on the Lake Bonney Foreshore. A walking tour of Barmera showcased some of the town’s projects which contributed to their win last year, including the Barmera Primary School, Barmera Playspace, Barmera Men’s Shed, Lake Bonney and the Anzac Memorial Centenary Cross.

Finalists also heard highlights from Gail Langley’s National judging tour and a presentation from each finalist. The event culminated in the Awards Ceremony at the Bonney Theatre, with special guest, South Australian Governor, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC and Mrs Le.

Kimba was the joint winner of the Environmental Education award, as well as receiving a number of highly commended awards.

“A fighting spirit to build their community and attract others to visit and experience their way of life has lead Kimba to ignite their spirit and create lasting impressions for those passing through. Rural leaders with passion and expertise are making their mark”, commented Gail Langley, Australian Tidy Towns Judge.

Smithton, Tasmania, was announced as Overall KAB National Tidy Towns Winner.
