KESAB Green Team

Emissions

The Green Team is pleased that electricity use, and therefore emissions from the KESAB building continue a downward trend. We are also happy to report that fleet car emissions for 2016, of an estimated 6.21 tonnes of CO2, are the lowest since recording started in 2007 (20.06 tonnes of CO2). The Green Team recognises that we are not measuring all areas of emissions and will re-establish carbon accounting which we last undertook in 2012-2013 to capture a more thorough scope 1 (direct), 2 (indirect) and 3 (optional – e.g. flights, waste, paper, water).

The majority of the Green Team’s actions have been focussed on the front of building garden, after the 2016 biodiversity audit identified new strategies to attract and support more wildlife. More mulch was brought in to reduce evaporation of soil moisture, suppress weeds and create habitat for reptiles and insects. After receiving council approval, Wendy worked with Hugh Kneebone to create a bird bath.

Staff proudly installed the bird bath in the front garden to provide a water source for birds, butterflies and any frogs moving through the area. We achieved excellent self-seeding of our ruby and climbing saltbushes, native sarsaparilla and spear grasses.

The next step is to do some infill planting to replace plants that have died or were removed during recent drainage works.
