Sims and KESAB, a great environmental solution.
John Phillips - KESAB |
Over the last 45 years that KESAB environmental solutions has been delivering world class environmental sustainability programs, a vital, essential component of the good work we have done to support our environment has been the partnerships we have been able to develop and sustain.
KESAB, whilst a small organisation, is responsible for over $20 million worth of major programs. All we have to 'sell' is our knowledge, passion and energy on behalf of the environment and community and it is simply impossible to imagine our having any effect without partners - individuals, corporate and government putting 'wind beneath our wings'. Community participation and environmental improvement in partnership with KESAB is estimated at over 700,000 hours annually.
So it with enormous pleasure that I welcome the first edition of Metallic Green and our friends at Sims Metal Management. Sims is the largest recycler of metal in the world and arguably the most advanced in terms of the technology it deploys to return steel to industry for recycling.
Its origins go back to nearly 100 years, to 1917. It employs over 5,600 people in 230 facilities around the world and in 2010, the recycled materials sold by the company saved the mind-boggling amount of close to 13 million Megawatts of energy compared to the same amount of virgin material.
Truly, Sims is a KESAB kind of organisation!
Keep watching the Sims link of the KESAB website. Metallic Green will be published regularly and we will be running a series of initiatives and programs to spread the word of how South Australia's leading metal recycler is helping to reduce the need for virgin steel and help in keeping South Australia Beautiful!
